Grande Riviere Sud Est (GRSE) is a coastal village at the mouth of the Grande Rivière Sud-Est, one of the largest rivers on Mauritius. The village is named after this river, which flows from the central plateau down to the east coast. The area is scenic, with the wide river estuary creating a haven for birdlife and a picturesque setting for walks along the riverbanks. The coast here is rocky in parts with sandy patches.

How to reach

GRSE is located on the coastal road, 10 km south of Centre de Flacq. Buses from Centre de Flacq and Mahébourg serve the village several times a day. A taxi from Centre de Flacq costs around MUR 300.

The village is small and best explored on foot along the riverbanks. A bicycle is useful for reaching the nearby beaches and villages. Buses connect to Centre de Flacq and Mahébourg.

The Grande Rivière Sud-Est estuary is the main natural attraction, with wide river views and mangroves. The bridge over the river is a local landmark. The coastline offers views of the lagoon and, in the distance, the mountains of the central plateau.
