Saint Lawrence

San Lawrenz (Saint Lawrence) is a small, traditional municipality located on the western coast of the island of Gozo, Malta. Built on a flat hill surrounded by three fertile valleys, the locality has successfully preserved its rustic, agricultural character and peaceful way of life.

The parish is famous for its municipal boundaries, which encompass the spectacular coastal area of Dwejra. This region is home to some of Malta's most iconic natural landmarks, including the Inland Sea, Fungus Rock, and the world-renowned Blue Hole dive site.

The best time to visit San Lawrenz is from April to June when the countryside is lush and green, making it perfect for coastal hiking. The summer months (July to September) are ideal for swimming and diving in the crystal-clear waters of Dwejra, while the winter months offer dramatic sea views and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

The annual parish feast, dedicated to Saint Lawrence, is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. The village is decorated with lights, and the festivities feature traditional brass band marches and fireworks.

San Lawrenz is located about 3.5 km west of Victoria, the capital of Gozo. It is connected to Victoria by Malta Public Transport bus routes 311 and 312, which run approximately every hour.

The village core is small and easily explored on foot. For visiting the coastal area of Dwejra, which is about 2 km downhill, walking, taking the 311 bus, or driving is recommended.

The locality is also known for its artisans. The Ta' Dbiegi Crafts Village, located on the outskirts of the village, is a hub for local craftsmen producing traditional Gozitan lace, pottery, glassblowing, and leatherwork.
