Marsaskala (also known as Wied il-Għajn) is a popular seaside town located in the South Eastern Region of Malta. Set around a long, narrow bay, Marsaskala has grown from a small, quiet fishing village into a bustling summer resort and a beloved residential locality. The town is characterized by its scenic promenade, modern apartments, and historic coastal watchtowers.
The bay of Marsaskala is sheltered by the headlands of Zonqor Point to the north and St. Thomas Point to the south. Historically, the area was vulnerable to pirate raids, which led to the construction of fortifications like the St. Thomas Tower. Today, Marsaskala is known for its vibrant waterfront atmosphere, excellent restaurants, and family-friendly recreation areas.
When to Visit
The best time to visit Marsaskala is during the late spring and summer months (May to September) when the coastal town is at its liveliest, and the waters of the bay are perfect for swimming and water sports. The town celebrates the feast of its patron saint, St. Anne, in late July, featuring lively street celebrations, band marches, and fireworks over the bay.
