Kerċem is a peaceful and traditional village located on the island of Gozo, Malta's sister island. Situated immediately to the southwest of Gozo's capital, Victoria, Kerċem is nestled between the picturesque Lunzjata Valley and the scenic hills of Il-Mixta and Għar Ilma. The village is known for its lush agricultural surroundings, ancient freshwater springs, and tranquil rural charm.
The area around Kerċem has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by archaeological discoveries at the nearby Santa Verna temple site. Today, the village retains a slow-paced, traditional Gozitan lifestyle, making it a perfect destination for travelers seeking an authentic rural experience, scenic countryside walks, and a glimpse into Gozo's rich history.
When to Visit
The ideal time to visit Kerċem is during the spring months (March to May), when the Gozitan countryside is in full bloom and the valleys are lush and green. Autumn (September to November) is also excellent for outdoor activities and hiking. The village celebrates its annual feast of St. Gregory the Great in mid-March, and the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the second week of July, both featuring traditional decorations and processions.

WhatsAppGetting Around
Kerċem is situated just a short distance from Victoria, making it easily accessible. Local buses (such as route 313) connect the village to the Victoria bus terminus, from where connections are available to the rest of Gozo. Given the village's small size, it is best explored on foot, and many scenic walking trails lead directly from the village into the surrounding countryside.
