Overview

Għaxaq is a traditional local council located in the Southern Region of Malta, situated amidst fertile agricultural plains. Unlike the bustling tourist resorts of the coast, Għaxaq is a residential and farming community that has preserved its authentic Maltese character. The village's history is deeply connected to agriculture, and its name is believed to derive from a prominent noble family (Axiaq) that held land in the area during the medieval period.

The village is centered around a grand baroque parish church and a network of narrow streets lined with traditional limestone houses. Għaxaq is famous for its unique architectural details, its highly active community clubs, and its preservation of old Maltese traditions, making it a rewarding destination for travelers looking to experience authentic local life.
