Why visit Ke-Macina?
Ké-Macina (also written Ké Macina) is a small town and rural commune, capital of the Cercle of Macina in Mali's Ségou Region, on the north (left) bank of the Niger River. Founded in 1921, it was named after the Bozo village of Ké across the river and the wider Inner Niger Delta region historically known as Macina. The commune covers about 1,100 km² and includes the main town and 20 villages. The surrounding farmland is part of the Office du Niger irrigated zone, with water diverted from the Niger upstream of the Markala dam and fed through a system of canals to grow rice.
