George Town
Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Why visit George Town?
George Town is the capital of Penang and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its well-preserved colonial-era architecture, world-famous street food, and unique multicultural character. Founded by Captain Francis Light of the British East India Company in 1786, the city grew into a major trading port attracting Chinese, Malay, Indian, and European communities. This diversity is reflected in the city's temples, mosques, churches, and the famous Peranakan (Baba-Nyonya) culture. The heritage core is compact and walkable, with narrow lanes (lorongs) filled with street art, boutique hotels, and cafes.
