Thaba-Tseka

Thaba-Tseka District is located in central Lesotho, a high-altitude district dominated by the Maloti Mountains. The district capital, Thaba-Tseka, is a mountain town in a scenic valley. The district is home to the Katse Dam, one of the largest dams in Africa and a key component of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

The district offers spectacular mountain scenery, impressive engineering at the Katse Dam, and opportunities for hiking and cultural tourism in remote Basotho villages.

The best time to visit is from November to March when mountain weather is milder. Winter (May to September) is cold with snow on the high peaks.

Thaba-Tseka is accessible by paved road from Maseru via the Katse Dam road. The journey takes about 3-4 hours. Minibus taxis operate from the district capital.
