Quthing

Quthing District is located in the far south of Lesotho, bordering South Africa's Eastern Cape province. The district capital is Quthing (also known as Moyeni), a historic town known for its San rock art and dinosaur footprints. The district is mountainous and remote, with the Senqu River valley cutting through the landscape.

Quthing is one of the least visited districts in Lesotho but offers rich archaeological and palaeontological sites. The area is known for the Masitise Cave Church and dinosaur footprints preserved in the riverbed.

The dry winter months from May to September are the best time to visit. Summer (November to February) is rainy.

The A2 highway reaches Quthing from Mohale's Hoek. The road is paved but winding. Minibus taxis operate from the district capital. Travel to remote villages requires careful driving on gravel roads.
