Muang La is a remote district in eastern Oudômxai Province, located in the mountains near the Vietnamese border. The area is heavily forested and home to Hmong and Khmu communities. The district capital is a small settlement with basic services. It is one of the least visited areas of the province.

The climate is subtropical highland with cool temperatures. The dry season from November to April is the best time to visit.

From Muang Xay, take secondary roads east for approximately 100 km (3-4 hours). Roads are unpaved and rough, requiring a 4WD vehicle.
