Xe Pian National Park
Attapu, Laos
Why visit Xe Pian National Park?
Xe Pian National Park is a large protected area spanning Attapu and Champasak provinces in southern Laos. Established in 1993, the park covers approximately 2,400 km² of lowland evergreen forest, wetlands, and river habitats along the Cambodian border. It is one of the most important conservation areas in Laos, home to Asian elephants, gibbons, dholes, sun bears, and over 300 bird species including the rare white-winged wood duck and green peafowl. The park's name derives from the Xe Pian River which flows through its heart.
The climate is tropical monsoon with heavy rainfall from May to October. The dry season from November to April offers the best wildlife viewing as animals concentrate around water sources. Access is limited and most visitors enter on guided multi-day treks from Attapeu or from the Champasak side.
