Nakuru County lies in the heart of Kenya's Great Rift Valley, surrounded by lakes, volcanoes, and escarpments. Its capital, Nakuru town, is Kenya's fourth-largest urban centre and a major commercial hub. The county is defined by its extraordinary natural attractions: Lake Nakuru National Park (famous for flamingos), Lake Naivasha, Hell's Gate National Park, and the Menengai Crater.
The Rift Valley floor is dotted with soda and freshwater lakes, while the highlands to the west and east are fertile agricultural areas producing wheat, maize, coffee, and dairy. The county's location on the Nairobi–Kisumu highway and railway makes it one of Kenya's most accessible regions.
When to Visit
The dry months (June–September and January–March) are best for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities. The long rains (March–May) bring heavy downpours. The climate is pleasant year-round, with Nakuru town at 1,850 m elevation staying mild.
