Why visit?

Embu County lies on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya, a fertile region of rolling hills, coffee plantations, and tea estates. It is the homeland of the Embu people, a Bantu community closely related to the Kikuyu and Meru. The county capital, Embu town, is a pleasant highland city with a relaxed atmosphere. The main attractions are the lower slopes of Mount Kenya, the Mwea National Reserve, and the scenic countryside. Embu is less visited than the tourist centres on the western side of Mount Kenya, offering a quieter and more authentic experience of the mountain's foothills.

When is the best time to visit?

The driest months are January–March and June–September. The long rains (April–June) make roads muddy, but the landscape is lush. The short rains (October–December) are lighter.

Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Embu route around them.
