Tambach

Tambach is a town on the Elgeyo Escarpment in Elgeyo/Marakwet County, located just south of Iten. It sits on the edge of the escarpment with dramatic views across the Kerio Valley. The town is an administrative and trading centre for the surrounding highland farming area, and its location makes it one of the best places in the county to appreciate the sheer drop from the Uasin Gishu Plateau into the Rift Valley floor.

Tambach is on the paved road from Eldoret to Iten, about 5 km south of Iten and 35 km north of Eldoret. Matatus and boda-bodas run frequently between Eldoret and Iten.

Tambach is small and walkable. Boda-bodas provide local transport.

• Kerio Valley viewpoint — the escarpment edge at Tambach offers one of the most dramatic views along the entire Elgeyo Escarpment, dropping over 1,000 m to the valley floor.

• Tambach Forest — a patch of indigenous forest on the escarpment slope.

• Escarpment walks — walk along the edge of the Kerio Valley for panoramic views.

• Photography — the escarpment views at sunset are spectacular.

Small food kiosks serve Kenyan staples.

Chai and soft drinks at local kiosks.

Basic guesthouses offer simple rooms. More comfortable options are in Iten (5 km north).
