Why visit Naurzum Nature Reserve?

Naurzum Nature Reserve is one of Kazakhstan's oldest protected areas, established in 1931 and recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It protects a unique mosaic of steppe, forest, wetland, and desert ecosystems in the Torgai Plateau region of northern Kazakhstan. The reserve is a critical breeding and stopover site for migratory birds, including the rare Siberian white crane.

By Plane

Kostanay Airport (KSN) is 150 km north. 2-hour drive.

By Train

Nearby villages have railway stations. Road transport from Kostanay is best.

By Car / Road

From Kostanay, drive south. 4x4 recommended for park roads. Permits must be arranged in advance through the reserve administration.

The settlement is compact enough to explore on foot. For longer trips, shared taxis (marshrutkas) and local buses serve the area. Ride-hailing apps like Yandex Taxi operate in larger towns.
