Why visit Karaganda?
Karaganda is Kazakhstan's fourth-largest city and the capital of Qaraghandy Region. It was developed as a Soviet mining and industrial centre, with a notorious history as the site of the Karlag Gulag labour camp. The city has a unique character with broad Soviet boulevards, brutalist architecture, and a growing educational sector with Karaganda State University.

Karaganda Sary-Arka Airport (KGF) serves flights from Almaty, Astana, and international destinations. Taxi to centre 2,500 KZT.
By Train
Karaganda railway station is a major stop on the Almaty-Astana line. Frequent trains. Book via railways.kz.
By Car / Road
On the M-36 highway connecting Astana (230 km north) to Almaty. Buses from Astana, Almaty, and Temirtau.
