How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest international airport is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), approximately 90–180 km from Soltvadkert depending on the location in Bács-Kiskun. From the airport, the most practical onward option is a combination of airport shuttle bus to Budapest city centre followed by a train or long-distance bus to Soltvadkert.

By Train

Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) operates regional trains that connect Soltvadkert with nearby towns and the broader Hungarian rail network. Most trains on regional routes are stopping services that call at smaller stations. Budapest Keleti station typically offers connections for most destinations in Bács-Kiskun. Check the MÁV website for current timetables.

By Bus

Volánbusz coaches provide bus services connecting Soltvadkert with surrounding towns and villages. Bus services are generally reliable during weekdays, with reduced frequencies on weekends. The bus station is typically located near the town centre.

The centre of Soltvadkert is compact enough to explore on foot. The main square, churches, and principal sights are typically within a 10–15-minute walk of each other. Local bus services connect the town centre with outlying residential neighbourhoods. Taxis are available and can be hailed at the train station or booked by phone. For exploring the wider Bács-Kiskun region, a car is the most practical option.

Holy Crown Confectionery (Szent Korona Cukrászda) : The famous Hungarian confectionery was functions as a confectionery museum and a literacy themed coffeeshop. The customers can enjoy their delicious ice creams and cakes in a breathtaking royal environment. The family business won the "confectionery of the year" title in 2005

Where to eat?

The city center has numerous specialty shops and restaurants offering fine food.

Where to drink?

The biggest wine region of Hungary, called Kunsági Borvidék, is home to two excellent wineries of Soltvadkert. The Frittman Winery and the Font Winery have won several awards, in Hungary and abroad (VinAgora, Sommelie Wine Awards, Cannes Rose Festival). The wineries have modern technologies and aesthetic tasting rooms. The wine community in Soltvadkert is the biggest wine community in Hungary.

Bács-Kiskun County is the home of sweet fruits and the excellent distillates made of them. The knowledge and the traditions passing through generations make pálinka, our national spirit a true hungaricum. In Soltvadkert, the Schiszler Pálinka and Szekeres Pálinka put emphasis on making high-quality products. The Schiszler Pálinka has become part of the National Pálinkas of Excellence Program. The Szekeres Pálinka started its activities in 1992, ever since then they produce their pálinka in a traditional way.

What should you buy?

Shopping in Soltvadkert centres around the main square and adjacent streets, where you will find bakeries, grocery stores (ABC), and small boutiques. A weekly market (piac) is typically held in or near the town centre, selling fresh produce, local honey, eggs, cheese, and seasonal fruits and vegetables. For more extensive shopping, larger supermarkets (such as Spar, Lidl, or Tesco) are usually located on the outskirts. Shops generally open Monday–Friday 7:00–18:00, Saturday 7:00–12:00, with many closed on Sunday.
