Labé

Labe is a region in central Guinea, in the heart of the Fouta Djallon highlands. The capital is Labe, the largest city in the Fouta Djallon. The region is known for its dramatic plateau landscapes, waterfalls, and cattle-herding Peul (Fulani) communities. The climate is cooler than the lowlands.

November to April is the dry season and the best time for hiking. May to October is rainy, with spectacular green landscapes and full waterfalls.

Labe is connected to Mamou and Conakry by paved road. Roads to Mali and other towns are unpaved. Bush taxis are the main transport.

The Peul (Fulani) are the dominant ethnic group. Their traditional lifestyle centres on cattle herding. The Labe Friday market is one of the largest in the region.
