Overview

Kankan is a region in eastern Guinea, bordering Mali and Cote d'Ivoire. The capital is Kankan, Guinea's second-largest city. The region is known for gold mining (especially around Siguiri), the Milo River, and its Malinke cultural heritage. Kankan is a historic centre of Islamic learning.

Getting Around

The N1 highway connects Kankan to Conakry. Roads to Siguiri and the gold-mining areas are unpaved. Bush taxis are the main transport.
