Conakry

Conakry is both the capital of Guinea and a special zone (governorate) that covers the city and its immediate surroundings. Located on the Kaloum Peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, Conakry is the political, economic, and cultural heart of the nation. The city is home to the presidential palace, the national museum, the main university, and Guinea's only international airport.

November to April is the dry season and the best time to visit. May to October is the rainy season with high humidity and frequent heavy downpours.

Conakry's transport relies on shared taxis (poda-poda minibuses on fixed routes) and private taxis. Traffic congestion is severe, especially during rush hours. Walking is possible in the centre but the city is spread out.
