Boke is a region in western Guinea, bordering Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. The capital is Boke town. The region is the centre of Guinea's bauxite mining industry, with major mines at Sangaredi and the port of Kamsar handling exports. The landscape is a mix of savannah, forest, and mangrove-lined estuaries along the coast. The region is also known for the Koundara area in the north, with its Fouta Djallon foothills.
When to Visit
The dry season (November-April) is the best time to travel, when roads are passable and the humidity is lower. The rainy season (May-October) brings heavy rainfall that can make roads difficult.
Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Boké route around them.
WhatsAppGetting Around
The main road connects Boke to Kamsar and Sangaredi. Roads are paved but in variable condition. Bush taxis (shared taxis) are the primary form of transport. A 4x4 is recommended for travel to Koundara and the northern areas.
