km) east of downtown Los Angeles.

San Gabriel is compact enough to explore on foot, with most points of interest within walking distance of the town centre. Tuk-tuks are available for trips to outlying areas or neighbouring villages. Local transport options are affordable and widely used by residents.

This historic 1927 theatre, built for John Stephen McGroartry's Mission Play, is still used for concerts, plays, and dance performances. The theatre has a working Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ. Tours of the theatre may be arranged by contacting the Managing Director at ext. 227.
