The Piraeus Πειραιάς , official transliteration Pireas ) is the ancient port of Athens , and still functions as the chief exit point from the city by sea, for destinations among the Aegean Islands and elsewhere in the east Mediterranean. Domestic destinations include all of the Aegean islands except the Sporades and some smaller Cyclades and Dodecanese isles that require a connection. International destinations (apart from cruise ships) include Cyprus and the Middle East

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest international airport is Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) or Thessaloniki Makedonia (SKG), depending on the region. From the airport, rental cars and KTEL buses connect to Piraeus.

By Car / Road

Piraeus is accessible via Greece's national road network. KTEL intercity buses connect Piraeus with major cities. Driving offers flexibility, especially for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Piraeus is compact enough to explore on foot. For longer distances, local buses and taxis are available. Renting a car or scooter is the best way to explore the wider area independently.
