Anhwiaso
Western North, Ghana
Why visit Anhwiaso?
Anhwiaso is a town in Ghana's Western North Region, seat of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, next to the mining town of Bibiani. Its paramount chief, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II — who also serves as President of Ghana's National House of Chiefs — has played a leading role in the traditional council's dealings with the Bibiani gold mine's successive operators (Resolute Mining, then Canada's Asante Gold, which took over the mine in 2021 and resumed production in 2022), as well as in local efforts against illegal ("galamsey") mining in the area.
