Why visit Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park?

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is one of the largest and most popular national parks in Georgia, spanning over 850 km² across the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Imereti regions. Established in 1995 with German technical support, the park protects the forested slopes of the Lesser Caucasus and features well-marked hiking trails ranging from easy day walks to multi-day treks with mountain huts. The park is home to diverse wildlife including brown bears, wolves, lynxes, and over 200 bird species.

How do you get there?

By car

The park has several entrance points. The main visitor centre is in Borjomi (from Tbilisi: 2.5 hours). Other trailheads are accessible from Kharagauli, Akhaltsikhe, and Bakuriani.

By bus

Marshrutkas from Tbilisi to Borjomi drop you at the park visitor centre.

The park is accessed on foot via its marked trail network (500+ km of trails). Maps and permits are available at the visitor centres.

What are the things to do?

The park's diverse landscapes — from dense mixed forest to alpine meadows. The Lomis Mta mountain. The Bakhvi and Zedubani glacial lakes. Historic stone bridges and medieval churches within the park boundaries. The sulphur waterfalls and volcanic formations.

Hike the park's trails — popular day hikes include the Lomisi Loop (6 hours) and the Likani Path (3 hours). Multi-day treks connect the Borjomi and Kharagauli entrances (2–4 days). Birdwatch. Horseback riding on some trails. Photograph the mountain landscapes.
