Why visit?

Upper River Division spans the easternmost section of the Gambia River, near the border with Senegal. The landscape is more open than the coastal areas, with savanna woodlands and seasonal floodplains. Basse Santa Su is the largest town and the divisional capital, serving as the main commercial centre for the eastern region.

When is the best time to visit?

The dry season (November–May) is the best time for travel. The wet season can make secondary roads impassable.

Tell us your dates and we'll shape a Upper River route around them.
