The park is centred on the Ivindo River and is famous for the Kongou and Mingouli waterfalls, which are among the most powerful in Central Africa. The park hosts forest elephants, western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and over 430 bird species. It is one of Gabon's most spectacular natural attractions. Access is via the town of Makokou, which has a domestic airport (flights from Libreville). From Makokou, the park entrance is 30 km south by unpaved road (4x4 required, about 1 hour).
