Vunisea
Eastern, Fiji
Why visit Vunisea?
Vunisea is the main administrative centre of Kadavu Island and Kadavu Province in Fiji's Eastern Division. Located on the Namalata Isthmus — a narrow strip of land that almost cuts Kadavu in two — Vunisea serves as the island's transport and government hub. It has an airport, a hospital, a high school, and a government station. Kadavu is the fourth-largest island in Fiji (411 km²) and one of the least developed, with a subsistence-based economy centred on yaqona (kava) cultivation. The island is surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, one of Fiji's premier diving destinations. Vunisea has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round; the wet season runs November–April and the drier season May–October.
