Los Palacios

Los Palacios is a town in the eastern part of Pinar del Río province, Cuba, located in the municipality of Los Palacios. Situated about 60 km east of the provincial capital and roughly 110 km west of Havana, it sits on the Carretera Central and serves as an important agricultural centre in the region. The town's economy is based on tobacco, rice, and sugarcane cultivation.

Founded in the colonial period, Los Palacios has a traditional Cuban small-town character with a central plaza, modest government buildings, and a population of around 25,000. The surrounding landscape is predominantly flat agricultural land. The climate is tropical, averaging 24–30°C, with the dry season (November–April) offering the most comfortable conditions for visiting.

The nearest major airport is José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana, approximately 110 km east. The drive from Havana takes about 1.5–2 hours. Pinar del Río city airport is approximately 60 km west.

By Train

The Havana–Pinar del Río rail line passes through Los Palacios, with a local station. However, Cuban rail service is infrequent and unreliable. Check schedules locally. The journey from Havana takes approximately 3–4 hours by train.

By Car / Road

Los Palacios is located on the Carretera Central, approximately 110 km west of Havana and 60 km east of Pinar del Río. The road is well-maintained. Viazul bus services between Havana and Pinar del Río may stop in Los Palacios. Driving from Havana takes about 1.5–2 hours.

The town is compact and walkable. Bicitaxis and horse-drawn carriages provide local transport. Roads in the surrounding area are paved and suitable for cycling.
