Rincón de la Vieja National Park protects the massive Rincón de la Vieja volcano (1,916 m), the largest volcano in Guanacaste's volcanic chain. The park features volcanic fumaroles, hot springs, mud pots, waterfalls, and diverse ecosystems from tropical dry forest to cloud forest. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Daniel Oduber International (LIR) in Liberia, about 25 km south (30-40 minutes).

By Train

Costa Rica has no passenger rail service to this area.

By Car / Road

From Liberia, 25 km north on Route 1 then west on dirt roads to park entrances. Two main entrances: Las Pailas (west) and Santa María (east).

Hiking trails only. No vehicles inside the park. Guided tours recommended.
