Kindamba
Pool, Congo
Why visit Kindamba?
Kindamba is a town in the Pool Department of the Republic of the Congo, in the Kindamba District. Before the Republic of the Congo's civil conflicts of the 1990s it was one of the larger towns in Pool, with a population estimated around 16,000, but the fighting emptied it: most residents fled, and schools, the hospital, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure were damaged or destroyed. Only a few thousand people had returned by the 2000s, to a town still short of food and basic services. Pool Department as a whole was historically known as the country's granary, its fertile soils supplying Brazzaville with produce and livestock before the wars disrupted farming and trade across the region.
