Guéra is a province in south-central Chad, known for its hilly relief that distinguishes it from the predominantly flat surrounding regions. The Guéra massif rises prominently from the surrounding plains, offering some of the most scenic landscapes in Chad. The province is named after this massif, which is culturally significant to the local Hadjarai peoples.
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy, with cotton, millet, and groundnuts as major crops. Mongo is the provincial capital and main commercial centre. Guéra is relatively accessible compared to northern Chad, with road links to N'Djamena and the southern regions.
When is the best time to visit?
The cool dry months from November to February are ideal. The rainy season (June–September) makes some tracks impassable.
