Overview

Muyinga is a province in north-eastern Burundi bordering Tanzania and Rwanda, Burundi. The provincial capital, also called Muyinga, sits on the central plateau at roughly 1,700 m elevation. The landscape is characterised by rolling hills, valleys, and agricultural terraces.

For travellers, Muyinga offers access to Ruvubu National Park. The province is off the main tourist circuit, rewarding those who venture here with authentic rural experiences.

When to Visit

The dry season from June to August is the best time for travel. The short dry season in December–January is a secondary option. The long rains from February to May can make roads difficult.
