Overview

Lobatse is a town in south-eastern Botswana, approximately 70 km south of Gaborone near the South African border. It is one of Botswana's oldest European-style settlements and served as the country's judicial capital, hosting the High Court until its relocation to Gaborone. Lobatse retains a quiet, historic character with colonial-era buildings, wide streets, and a small-town atmosphere. The town is an important centre for the meat-processing industry, home to the Botswana Meat Commission's abattoir, and serves as a gateway for travellers crossing into South Africa's North West Province.

When to Visit

Lobatse is best visited during the dry winter months (May–August) when the weather is mild. Summer (October–March) is hot with occasional thunderstorms. The town is a convenient stopover on the route between Gaborone and Mafikeng, South Africa.
