Overview

Kweneng is a district in south-eastern Botswana, lying immediately west of Gaborone. It is one of the most populous districts in the country, anchored by Molepolole, the largest traditional village in Botswana. The district is the heartland of the Bakwena people, one of the eight principal Tswana tribes. Kweneng's landscape transitions from the relatively fertile, hilly east near Gaborone to the drier Kalahari sandwich in the west. The district has a mix of urban suburbs (Mogoditshane, Gabane), traditional villages, and remote settlements on the edge of the Kalahari.

When to Visit

Kweneng is accessible year-round. Winter (May–August) offers the most pleasant temperatures. The summer rainy season (November–March) brings afternoon thunderstorms that turn the landscape green.
