Overview

Couffo is a department in southwestern Benin, lying inland from the coastal lagoon system. The capital Aplahoué is the main market centre. Couffo is primarily agricultural, with palm groves, maize, cassava, and cotton forming the economic base. The population is predominantly Fon and Adja. The department is off the main tourist circuit but offers a window into everyday rural life in southern Benin.

When to Visit

November to February is the best time, with dry weather and moderate temperatures. The rainy seasons (April–July, September–October) bring heavy rain.
