Why visit Telfs?
Telfs is a market town in the Upper Inn Valley (Oberinntal) of Tyrol, situated at the southern base of the 2,662-metre Hohe Munde mountain, 28 km west of Innsbruck. With a population of around 16,300, it is the third-largest municipality in Tyrol. The town sits on a wide alluvial terrace at an elevation of 634 metres along the north bank of the Inn River.
Long a regional market crossroads and textile manufacturing center, Telfs today serves as an economic hub and a gateway to the surrounding alpine regions. Travelers visit to experience regional traditions—such as the Telfer Schleicherlaufen carnival held once every five years—and to use the town as a base for exploring the Mieming Plateau and the Seefeld ski area.
The local climate is continental alpine. Winters (December through February) bring freezing temperatures and regular snowfall, with daily averages between -2°C and 3°C. Summers (June through August) are warm, with daytime temperatures reaching 22°C to 26°C, accompanied by occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Spring and autumn are crisp and clear, providing good conditions for valley walks and cycling.
