Kapfenberg

Why visit Kapfenberg?
Kapfenberg sits along the Mürz River in Upper Styria, positioning itself as an industrial center with deep ties to high-grade steel manufacturing, led by the voestalpine Böhler plant. Located between the Hochschwab mountain range and the Mur valley, the town combines a manufacturing base with surrounding alpine countryside.
The town's centerpiece is Burg Oberkapfenberg, a 14th-century fortress standing above the historic core. Visitors use Kapfenberg as a base for outdoor mountain pursuits in the Hochschwab region, riverside cycling, or local cultural events.
Kapfenberg experiences a humid continental climate with temperate summers and freezing winters. Daytime summer temperatures average 23°C to 26°C, while winter daily highs range from 1°C to 4°C with regular snowfall between December and February. Rainfall peaks during June and July.
